Kathleen grew up in Cross Lanes, WV and graduated from Nitro High School in 1997. She was an NYSC delegate in 1997, staph member in 1999, and has been a directed study presenter since 2004. Kathleen obtained her BS in Chemistry in 2001 from Saint Vincent College (Latrobe, PA) where she was also captain of the women’s soccer team and an NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete. She attended graduate school at the University of Minnesota, where she earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2007 for her research investigating the chemistry and mechanical properties of new renewable resource-based, biodegradable plastics. Kathleen is currently an NIH postdoctoral fellow in the Chemical and Biological Engineering department at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she is developing improved photo-polymerizable materials for dental restorative applications. In her free time, Kathleen enjoys playing soccer, canoeing, yoga, cooking, vocal performance, and hiking.
