Alyssa Borowske first encountered NYSC as a 2003 delegate from Vermont, and then returned in 2007 and 2009 as a Nat Sci program area Staph. In between, she spent four years in Iowa, at Cornell College, where she earned her BA in Biology and Environmental Science. In 2008, she spent a year in New Zealand, as a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Waikato, studying threat recognition in birds. Most recently, she has begun her graduate school career as a PhD student in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Connecticut. She is interested in avian ecology and conservation, especially of migrant songbirds, and she will complete her dissertation by chasing little brown birds around salt marshes in Connecticut and South Carolina. When she isn’t birding or tied to her computer, Alyssa enjoys cooking, being crafty, and, most especially, embarking on outdoor adventures in New England or anywhere else around the globe.
